January of last year, I sat on the ridge of Palo Duro Canyon with a journal in hand preparing for a word from God about what He wanted me to accomplish this year. I was eager to move into the next season of life that I felt God was calling me to, and waiting for God to tell me where to go. As the sun set and the scenery became more and more beautiful only one word rang out from the Lord... "wait"... "But God I want to do amazing things for you" was my first thought, but God's response was a resounding "wait." At that moment I allowed anger to burn in my heart... This was the prime of my life! I was single, financially stable, and ready to do amazing things for the Lord... But God continued with a resounding, "wait."
After God did some humbling in my heart, I noticed some amazing promises from the Lord about waiting...
Isaiah 40:31 - But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Psalm 27:13-14 - I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Lamentations 3:25 - The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Psalm 27:14 - Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Micah 7:7 - But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. Psalm 37:9 - For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land. Romans 8:25 - But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Fast forward over a year now, and I am beginning to see the blessings of waiting in the Lord... Many times in our lives we try to run ahead of God and seek the things we think He wants for us, but God asks us to wait for Him. Wait for God's timing and His plan, the blessings will be greater than you could ever fathom. The question is, are you willing to wait on the Lord? God is walking before us preparing paths for us to walk on, so don't be afraid of a little season of waiting, God is preparing you for mighty things!
