A CHRISTIAN COUNSELORS VIEW...
Integration: adjective – combining or coordinating separate elements so as to provide a harmonious, interrelated whole. (Dictionary.com, 2018)
My personal spirituality is a comprehensive set of attitudes and beliefs incorporating the Christian world view. Through these beliefs and attitudes I interpret social interaction with my environment in day to day life. Comprehensive means that the desire and active effort to emulate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ during his time among man is subordinate to no secular constraint or limitation.
I believe that the omniscience of almighty God makes fully understanding and comprehending his majesty impossible in our human form. The apostle Paul says “For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then I shall know even as I am also known.” Cor. 13:12 (New King James Version) this means that in our present corporeal forms we express our emulation in our thoughts, actions and words. In my spiritual journey I pray for guidance and direction to be right minded. To stay away from judgement, assumptions and to attempt to manage my expectations in accordance with God’s will, rather than my selfish desires. Actions and behaviors are the visible portion of my walk.
In clinical interactions and in course of everyday life I need to be strikingly upright in demonstrating integrity, acting in loving kindness and doing so without the expectation of notice or praise. Words said and unsaid can have the potential for incredible healing or hurt.
James tells us that the tongue “No man can tame……..”(James 3:8). In our helping profession we are taught to utilize therapeutic silence and Adler says that encouragement is the universal intervention.
